While the precise origins of glass fusing techniques are not known with certainty, there is archeological evidence that the Egyptians were familiar with rudimentary techniques ca. 2000 BCE. Although this date is generally accepted by all researchers, some historians argue that the earliest fusing techniques were first developed by the Romans, who were much more prolific glassworkers.
Mixed technique: 1.Glass fusion and stained glass painting technique plus finishing glass varnishes refining & 2.Decorative glass-type varnishes painting, applied after the fusion operation.
Materials : The painting: float or patterned glass in various thickness, special glass-fusion pigments and colorants from Italy, Spain and Germany, colored and clear glass quick-drying lacquers. The MDF painting back-rest: moisture resistant cardboard(glazed textured paper or obsolete) passepartout, paints and colored/clear ecological varnishes. The frame: fir tree wood, colored/clear ecological varnishes, finishing varnishes.
Glass fusing is the technique used to join glass pieces together by partly melting the glass using high temperatures. The heating is commonly undertaken in an electric kiln. Instead of fitting glass together using a lead solder, two or more pieces of glass are laid on top of or overlapped on each other and are fired at temperatures ranging from 750 to 850 degrees Celsius. Special colorants and pigments, frits, eggshells, or glass drops can be used to complement any design.
